I arrived at my cousin’s yesterday evening. I parked my RV in the driveway in front of their house. They have a large house (used to be a barn – literally!) on a large lot outside of Sequim (pronounced “skwim”), with a small orchard in front of their house, and it feels like they are “out in the country”. We chatted, and made plans to drive up to Hurricane Ridge today, which we did. The sun cooperated, and we had a beautiful day for our drive. The Olympic Mountains, and Olympic National Park, are “in their back yard”. It only took us maybe 45 minutes to drive up to the ridge. The view of the Olympic Mountains, including Mt. Olympus, the tallest of the Olympic peaks, is really impressive from the Ridge. Awesome.
Then we drove to the Spit, which juts out into the Juan de Fuca Strait. Again, the views of the Strait, and of Vancouver Island in the distance, were beautiful.
We happened to catch the Lady Washington and the Hawaiian Chieftain in a mock battle while we were there.
Then we watched the harbor pilot go out to meet a ship.
At the end of a delightful day, I watched a juvenile red-tailed hawk that hangs around Dick and Julie's house. I will miss hearing his screeching cry as he flies across the yard.
